Frequently asked questions

Which phones are supported?

Any phone with Android 12 or newer. Cosmo Pro (the bigger on-device AI) needs a recent phone with about 8 GB of RAM or more.

The sky map doesn't match the real sky. What can I do?

Your compass probably needs calibrating. Move your phone in a figure-8 a few times, away from metal objects, magnets and phone cases with magnetic clasps. Also check that your location is right (Settings > Location). If the sensors still struggle, switch to "Drag" mode and move the map with your finger.

Why does the app want my location?

Only to calculate the sky above you: which planets and stars are up, rise and set times, ISS passes and aurora chances. Your location stays on your phone. If you prefer, you can choose a city by hand instead.

Does the app work offline?

Yes, the core features do: the sky map, planets, deep-space objects with their photos, Cosmo, lessons, quizzes and the calculators. Live features (picture of the day, ISS position, space weather, asteroids, Earth today and NASA image search) need an internet connection.

What is Cosmo, and is it private?

Cosmo is your space guide. Ask questions in your own words, like "Can I see Saturn tonight?". Cosmo answers from verified data and live calculations on your phone. Your questions are not sent to any server.

What is Cosmo Pro and how do I get it?

Cosmo Pro is a larger AI model that runs on your phone and gives longer, more natural answers. It is free. Unlock it by watching 3 short videos, reaching level 5, or keeping a 7-day streak, then download it in Settings > Cosmo AI. The download is about 2.6 GB, so use Wi-Fi.

Cosmo gave a wrong or strange answer.

AI answers can sometimes be wrong. Tap the flag icon under the answer and tell us what happened. We read every report and use them to improve Cosmo.

How do I get rid of ads?

Watch a short video in "Ad-free & rewards" for 1 hour without ads. Watch the next video before that time runs out and you climb to 2 hours, then 6, 12 and 24 hours. Each step starts its full time when you watch it. If the time runs out, the next video starts again at 1 hour.

A video didn't give me my reward.

Rewards are only given when the video plays to the end. If no video is available (for example on a slow connection), try again a bit later. For HD images, the download is free when no video can load.

My event reminders don't arrive.

Check that notifications are allowed for Cosmic Atlas in your phone's settings. Some phones also stop apps in the background to save battery. Set Cosmic Atlas to "Unrestricted" (or turn off battery optimisation for it).

What is a streak freeze?

Your streak counts the days in a row you use the app. A streak freeze protects it if you miss a day. You get one free every 7 days of streak, or by watching a video, and you can hold up to 2.

How do I save a photo or set it as my wallpaper?

Open a NASA image or the picture of the day and tap the download or wallpaper icon. The first time, each image is unlocked with one short video. "Set as wallpaper" opens your phone's own preview so you can adjust it first.

I changed phones. Is my progress lost?

Progress, rewards and settings are stored on your phone. If Android backup is on, your phone may restore them on the new device. Rewards like ad-free time and freezes aren't transferred.

How do I delete my data?

Clear your Cosmo chat with "New chat", reset your learning progress in Settings, or uninstall the app to remove everything it stored. See the Privacy Policy for details.
